Support your local bookstore with Libro.fm

If you are an audio book lover, you are probably familiar with Audible. I’m an Audible user too. It’s one of the places I listen to audio books, along with Spotify and Libby.

But what if there was a way to support your local bookstores with your audio book purchases? Enter Libro.fm!

I had heard about Libro.fm several years ago but I never dug in to learn more about it. The “fm” part of its name threw me at first and I thought it had to do with listening to the radio over the internet! Boy was I wrong!

I actually just signed up for it today. Libro.fm has a mission to support local bookstores and small business owners. This is how it works.

You create an account and then search for a bookstore to join. You can pick a local shop, I chose Chapter House Books which is a woman-owned business in Fayetteville NC, and shop for audio books from their selection. When you make a purchase on Libro.fm, it directly supports the local bookstore that you chose. How cool is that!

You can shop local for audio books! They have an app of course for you to listen with. The app is fully compatible with Android Auto and Apple Car Play if you like to listen in the car like I do!

As far as the pricing, it is very similar if not exactly the same as Audible – except your money is supporting local businesses instead of Amazon. They have a membership which gives you 1 credit per month for $14.99, which is the same as Audible. Or you can purchase titles a la carte for the going rate. You can gift credits on Libro.fm or purchase them in bulk for yourself.

Now as you know, I am an Amazon affiliate. I also know that people love Audible and once you have a reading habit, it’s hard to break. So I will keep sharing Audible books but I will also start sharing the links to audio books on Libro.fm. I am NOT an affiliate of Libro.fm so I don’t get any kickbacks. BUT local businesses do and that matters more.

Check out Libro.fm and give it a try! See if you like the app and the listening experience. See what local book stores are available to you to support! And if your fave bookshop isn’t on the list, maybe you can talk to them about joining.

Looks like I’m going to have to update my post on best places to listen to books!
